PREVIEW: Women's Ice Hockey preparing for NEWHA Quarterfinals at Stonehill

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University women's ice hockey team will head to the postseason in the first season as a varsity program. The Greyhounds will take on Stonehill College in a best-of-three-game series beginning on Friday, February 23, at 7:00 pm at the Bridgewater Ice Arena.
 
NEWHA TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
 
The two teams met four times this season, with the Skyhawks winning three of the four meetings but Assumption one the last time out. In their weekend series in late October, Stonehill took both games, 5-1 and 3-1, but in January, the Skyhawks won the Friday matchup 4-3 before the Greyhounds took the Saturday contest 5-2.

Record: 10-20-4 (10-14-4 NEWHA), 7-8-2 at home, 3-12-2 on the road
  • Assumption has the fifth-best offense in the conference (1.94) while allowing 2.70 goals per game.
  • The Greyhounds have allowed two or few goals in 10 of the last 11 games and have not allowed a powerplay goal in the previous six games.
  • Jenna Chaplain was named to the Hockey Commissioners Association "Watch List" for the Women's National Rookie of the Year Award in early February.
  • Assumption has racked up a flurry of weekly awards from the conference office, as six different players have won weekly awards, while Carissa Mudrak (Goaltender of the Week- 2) and Jenna Chaplain (Rookie of the Week - 3) have won it multiple times.

  • Stonehill is the second-highest scoring offense (2.59), ranking fifth in defense (2.54).
  • The Skyhawks have won their last four games, where they have allowed more than one goal once.
  • Stonehill had eight players earn NEWHA Player of the Week honors. At the same time, Alexis Petford (January Player of the Month) and Pusle Dyring-Anderson (November Defensive Player of the Month) were named Players of the Month this season.
  • Sophomore Defender Hannah Squires was named one of 18 nominees for the 2024 Hockey Humanitarian Award in January.
