THE BASICS:

-Score: Assumption 2, Saint Anselm 5

-Records: Assumption (8-11-4, 2-6-1 NE-10); Saint Anselm (11-9-3, 4-1-0 NE-10)

-The Lead: After two early goals by the Hawks, the Hounds were unable to recover and ultimately fell at Saint Anselm by a score of 5-2 on Tuesday evening. Sophomore Brian Farrell (Island Park, N.Y. / South Kent School) and junior Kevin Murphy (North Conway, NH / Kennett) registered goals for the Hounds on the night.  

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Saint Anselm got out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the contest to put the Hounds down by a deficit they could not overcome.

-In the second period, the Hawks fired off three goals within 2:34 for a substantial 5-0 lead before Assumption's offense began to attack.

-Farrell scored just four minutes after the barrage of Saint Anselm goals to get the Hounds on the board and halt the Hawks' offense.

-Assumption scored again when Murphy found the back of the net, assisted by senior Alex Erban (Attleboro, Mass. / Mount Saint Charles) at 9:42 in the second. The goal marked the final goal of the period as the Hound defense held the Hawks scoreless.

-Both teams battled in the third as the Assumption defense held strong, rendering Saint Anselm scoreless in the final frame. Unfortunately, the Hounds were unable to rally for the three goals needed to tie it up and the game ended in a 5-2 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-Assumption was outshot 35-24 by the Hawks while Saint Anselm capitalized on just one power play opportunity.

-Both teams combined for just four penalties on the evening.

-Senior Chris Hemhauser (Old Saybrook, Conn. / Glastonbury) played the first 21:58 for the Hounds, posting 12 saves while allowing four goals. He was replaced by junior Nick Commesso (Marshfield, Mass. / The Governor's Academy) who notched 18 saves in his 37:27 in net while allowing just one goal.

-Saint Anselm's Shane Joyce registered 22 saves between the pipes in 59:57.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:

-Despite the recent scoring deficits the Hounds still rank first in scoring offense in the NE-10 with 3.48 goals per game.

-Senior Brandon Bete (Greenfield, Mass. / Northfield Mount Hermon) and junior Ryan Gomez (Wayne, N.J. / Wayne Valley) remain ranked atop the NE-10 leader board in points, followed closely by Farrell.

-Farrell's goal marks his 10th game out of the last 12 that he has registered at least one point.

-Murphy's goal marks his seventh game in his last eight that he has tallied at least one point.
