Bete Hat Trick Fuels Hounds' 4-0 Win over Saint Anselm

Box Score

Worcester, Mass. (December 3) -- The Assumption College men's ice hockey team topped the visiting Saint Anselm Hawks on Wednesday night by a score of 4-0 at Buffone Arena behind a hat trick from junior Brandon Bete (Greenfield, Mass. / Northfield Mount Hermon). On the defensive side, junior Chris Hemhauser (Old Saybrook, Conn. / Glastonbury High School) notched his second-straight shutout in the win.

The victory marks the second-straight for Assumption and improves the Greyhounds' record to 3-7 overall, 2-3 in the NE-10, while Saint Anselm drops to 2-5-1 (0-1-1 NE-10).

Bete tallied the first score just 43 seconds into the first period with a quick shot off of a pass from senior Trevor Plante (Blackstone, Mass. / Mt. St. Charles). The goal marked the fourth of the season for Bete and gave Assumption a quick 1-0 lead.

In the second period, both squads fired on net with Saint Anselm ultimately ending the second with a 16-7 shot on goal advantage. Hemhauser held strong in net however, allowing for Bete to strike again with less than two minutes left in the second period to add an insurance goal. Once again, it was Plante who found Bete for the well-placed shot.

The third period kicked off in much the same fashion with 17 minutes of scoreless play until, in the 18th minute of the third period, junior Alex Erban (Attleboro, Mass. / Mount Saint Charles) scored on an empty net to put the Hounds up by three. Bete followed just four seconds before the clock expired with another for the 4-0 final.

Hemhauser, the reigning NE-10 Goaltender of the Week, put on an impressive performance between the pipes, tallying 44 saves compared to just 13 for the Hawks' Shane Joyce.

Overall, the Hawks outshot the Hounds 44-17 including a 20-5 Saint Anselm advantage in the third period. The two squads ultimately came out nearly even in faceoffs however, with Assumption claiming 41, including 18 off the stick of Bete, while Saint Anselm collected 42.

Following its two back-to-back wins, Assumption is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, Dec. 6. The Hounds will travel to Western New England for a 4:40 p.m. contest.
