Box Score Manchester, N.H. (November 23) -- The Assumption College ice hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision to Southern New Hampshire University Saturday evening in Northeast-10 Conference play.
After a scoreless first period, the Greyhounds jumped out to an early lead in the second frame when Nick Mattiello (Johnston, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) notched his third goal of the season from Ryan Gomez (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Vallley) 2:23 into the period. However, the Penmen were able to tie the game up at the 9:41 mark when Jay Sylvia capitalized on a power play opportunity.
The teams traded scores once again in the final period as SNHU's Dane Caracino scored just 1:37 into the frame to take a 2-1 lead, but just 18 seconds later, Mattiello netted his second goal of the game from Brandon Bete (Greenfield, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon) to knot it up again at 2-2. However, the Penmen scored once more at the 10:16 mark as Steven Berry recorded the game winner.
Bobby Bowden (Springfield, Mass. / Williston-Northampton) made 39 saves in net for the Greyhounds, while Tyler Holske recorded 26 for SNHU en route to the win.
The Greyhounds fall to 1-4-1 on the season with the loss while the Penmen improve to 6-1-0.
Assumption is back in action on Tuesday, November 26th in its first home contest of the season against Johnson and Wales. The game will begin at 7:35 p.m. at the Buffone Arena.
