WORCESTER, Mass.— The Assumption University women's ice hockey team scored two early goals and would hold off Stonehill College 2-1 in New England Women's Hockey Alliance action Friday afternoon at the Worcester Ice Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Assumption was the first team to get on the scoreboard, as
Jenna Chaplain struck at 9:58 of the first period. Her strong wrist shot beat the netminder to the low glove side, with
Mikaela Langbacka and
Kaitlyn Cielo recording assists on the play.
Alexi Kirkeby doubled the Greyhounds' lead 28 seconds into the second period as her shot from the point found its way through some traffic. Stonehill cut the deficit in half three minutes later as Maddison Achtyl struck on the power play.
The Hounds would carry a 2-1 lead late into the contest before the Skyhawks pulled their netminder with 1:57 remaining in regulation, but their late push would not find the equalizer, as
Jadyn Weiser stood strong and picked up the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Jadyn Weiser recorded 28 saves for her sixth win of the year.
- Assumption outshot Stonehill 35-29 while also winning 30-of-52 faceoffs.
- The Skyhawks were the only team to score on the powerplay, as they were 1-of-1, while the Greyhounds were scoreless on three chances.
- Stonehill still leads the all-time series 5-3-1.
