WORCESTER, Mass.— Kaitlyn Cielo scored on the power play in overtime, as the Assumption University women's ice hockey team defeated Long Island University, 3-2 in New England Women's Hockey Alliance action, Friday evening at the Worcester Ice Center.

Records: Greyhounds (1-4-1. 1-0-1 NEWHA), Sharks (3-1-0, 1-1-0 NEWHA)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Assumption controlled the flow of the game early in the first period, but it was quickly halted, as LIU scored on their second shot on goal, nearly halfway through the opening frame. Assumption responded five minutes later, as
Rachel Agerter found the back of the net, and
Alexa Hanrahan and
Heather Ajakie recorded helpers on the tally.
After the visiting Sharks went in front early in the second period, the Greyhounds found the equalizer in the opening minute of the third period, as
Kayla McGaffigan scored on the power play, off the rebound of a
Justina Valentini shot from the point. The game would head into overtime, where
Kaitlyn Cielo's shot from the top of the right circle beat the LIU netminder, giving the Hounds the 3-2 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Jadyn Weiser needed 20 saves to pick up the win.
- Assumption outshot LIU 43-22, while also winning 33-of-50 faceoffs.
- The Greyhounds went 2-for-4 on the power play, while the Sharks did not go on an advantage.
- LIU still leads the all-time series 7-1-1.
