SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 4 nationally ranked Assumption University field hockey team dropped their first game of 2024, as they fell to No. 3 Shippensburg University, 3-0 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at the Robbs Sports Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Shippensburg came out on the attack early, outshooting Assumption 4-1 in the opening 15 minutes, but neither side got a shot on target. The Raiders got on the board late in the second quarter, as Alexa Michielsen fired a shot off the feed at the top of the circle from Yasmin De Meyer.
Assumption tied the game up with under five minutes remaining in the third quarter, as
Elle Murray's shot from the top of the penalty circle beat the Raiders' netminder to the top right corner of the cage. The hosts would regain the lead three minutes later, as Michielsen netted her second goal of the game. The game would remain 2-1 in favor of the hosts until nine minutes remaining in regulation when Valu Paul's shot off the rebound by a
Paige Gillette save went into the bottom corner of the net.
