PREVIEW: No. 2 seeded Women's Basketball gear up to take on No. 6 seeded Southern Connecticut in NE10 Semifinals on Thursday

WORCESTER, Mass. – The second-seeded Assumption University women's basketball team will host No. 6 Southern Connecticut State University in the Northeast-10 Conference Semifinals on Thursday, March 7 at 7:00 pm, in Laska Gymnasium.  
 
THIS YEARS CONTESTS
Assumption swept the regular season series against the Owls, winning 77-59 on November 15 in Worcester before defeating Southern Connecticut 74-68 in 62-48 in New Haven on January 27.

THE SEASON TO THIS POINT
Record: 24-4 (18-4 NE10), 13-1 at home, 11-3 on the road
  • Assumption are looking to advance to their second ever championship, as they still look for their first NE10 title. This will be their 11th semifinals appearance.
  • The Hounds advanced following a Molly Stokes game-winner with 4.1 seconds to go in the fourth quarter. She ended the game with 15 points.
  • Assumption leads the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.09), assists per game (16.4), field goal percentage (46.6), scoring margin (14.4), scoring offense (67.8), and winning percentage (85.2)
  • The Greyhounds were well represented on the All-Conference teams, as Marina Callahan and Molly Stokes were named to the First Team, Amanda Mieczkowski was named to the Third Team and the All-Defensive Team, and Emma Dahl picked up All-Rookie Team honors.
  • Molly Stokes is third in the conference in points per game (15.1), while Kaijhe Hall (55.5) and Marina Callahan (52.5) are both top two in field goal percentage.
  • Stokes from deep has been efficient this season, hitting threes at a 44.6 percent clip, second-best in the NE10.

THE SEASON TO THIS POINT
Record: 18-12 (13-9 NE10), 11-4 at home, 7-8 on the road
  • Southern Connecticut State are looking for their third NE10 title, having appeared in three finals. The Owls went back-to-back in 2006 and 2007.
  • Delaney Haines is fourth in the conference in three-point percent, shooting at a 41.5 percent clip.
  • Katie Williamson was the lone Owl to be named to the All-NE10 team, as she found her way on the Second Team.
  • Southern Connecticut is second in the conference in three categories: assists per game (13.5), bench points per game (21.4), and free throw percentage (76.8).
  • The Owls also rank third in field goal percentage defense (35.2) and three-point percentage defense (32.0).
  • The Greyhounds ended Southern Connecticut's season last year, as the Owls lost to Assumption 60-44 in the Northeast-10 Quarterfinals
