HOW IT HAPPENED

Match One – Assumption 3, Post 2

Assumption went on a lot of small runs in the first set, finding themselves up 14-11 after a kill by Carly Goodhue. Post would keep it close, and ended up tying the first set at 20 a piece. However, three kills by Alexis Distasio in the latter stages helped secure the first set for the Hounds.

The Eagles responded fast and got out on the front foot in the second, leading by as much as 18-13 and Assumption could not come back. The sets would even up, and in the third set Post would continue the momentum. It was back-and-forth and the score was 16-14 hounds with another kill from Goodhue. However, the Eagles would flip the script and take set three after Keyah Sinclair and Caley Harper had a pair of kills to help close it.

The Greyhounds controlled the narrative for the rest of the match, playing a strong fourth set while having to hold off a small Eagles comeback when the Hounds led 23-20 and the Eagles pushed it to 24-23. Assumption would close it out and play a decisive fifth set. It was neck and neck with errors from the Eagles giving the Hounds a chance to close it. Sophia Kane and Distastio had the final kills and secured the match for Assumption.

Match Two - Southern Connecticut State 3, Assumption 1

The first set against the Owls was a game of runs. Assumption would string off five points to go up 12-7, while they then stormed out to a 19-8 lead with kills and attacking errors from the Owls. The owls turned 24-13 into 24-18, but Assumption closed it out to take the first set.

The next three sets belonged to Southern Connecticut, as they used their kills and forced attacking errors out of the Greyhounds. The second set was won with a score of 25-16, while the third set showed an impressive comeback from the Owls, as they trailed 16-12 and went on a 10-2 run to lead 22-18. The second set was closed out at 25-21 following a service ace from Emily Sartell. The fourth and final set was in full control for Southern Connecticut, taking it 25-17.
