MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Assumption University women's lacrosse team opened the 2023 season with a 15-2 win over the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs on the campus of Saint Anselm College Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption controlled the contest from the opening draw control, as
Molly Weiand scored at 14:09. Eight seconds later,
Olivia Catanzarite made it 2-0 Assumption. The Greyhounds continued to apply the pressure as
Grace Chicko,
Isabelle Edwards,
Katelynn Johnston, and
Jenna Joseph each scored in the opening 15 minutes to give Assumption a 10-0 advantage.
The Greyhounds would add one goal in the second quarter as
Kyle Johnston found the back of the cage, making it 11-0 through 30 minutes. Coming out of the break, Assumption added three goals in the opening five minutes, as Edwards, Weiand, and
Ella Tenney recorded tallies.
Julia Patrick got UCCS on the board at 7:52, capitalizing on a free-position shot, and registering her fifth goal of the year. Joseph made it 15-1 with six minutes left in the quarter, but Kyer Federick scored on another free-position shot, making it 15-2. The game would be called following the third quarter due to the temperature.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Skylar Troyan only needed to record one saves in the crease for the hosts.
- Assumption outshot their opposition 31-5, while the Greyhounds went 9-for-9 on clears, while the Mountain Lions went 8-for-12.
- Nine different players recorded a point for Assumption, with Jenna Joseph and Grace Chicko having two goals and three assists.
- Olivia Catanzarite led all scorers with five goals on the afternoon.
