DEBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The No. 16 nationally ranked Assumption University women's lacrosse team fell in a closely contested game at No. 11 Mercy College, 13-11, in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Mercy was the first team to get on the scoreboard as Leah Hansen scored 44 seconds into the game.
Jenna Joseph answered with two-straight goals within 31 seconds. The two teams would go on and trade goals for most of the first half until
Molly Weiand and
Olivia Catanzarite went back-to-back to go up 7-6. Either side would strike one more time in the first half, as Assumption would carry an 8-7 lead into the intermission.
The Mavericks changed their approach and slowed down the game, as they were able to score the only two goals in the quarter, to take a 9-8 lead heading into the fourth. Mercy carried the momentum they established in the third into the fourth, as they began the quarter on a 3-0 run.
Isabelle Edwards halted the Mavericks' run with her goal at 7:22, cutting the deficit to three (12-9). Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk regained a four-goal lead for the hosts, but goals from
Ella Tenney and Catanzarite found the back of the cage, but the Greyhounds ran out of time and fell 13-11.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Skylar Troyan recorded eight saves in the crease for the Greyhounds.
- Jenna Joseph led all scorers with three goals and three assists.
- Mercy outshot the visitors 27-26, the Greyhounds went 19-for-22 on clears, and the Mavericks went 18-for-22.
