FLUSHING, N.Y. – The No. 10 Assumption University women's basketball team held off Queens College, as the Greyhounds picked up an 81-76 triple-overtime victory in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The home side mainly controlled the first half, as they saw two separate ten-point leads get taken apart. The first quarter was a bit slow for the Greyhounds' standards, as they only scored nine points and shot 26.7% from the field. Stokes led the way for the Greyhounds in the first half, with seven points while shooting 75.0 percent from the field. Assumption's game is usually controlled by their fast basketball in transition and their defense, but the Knights were on fire in the first half, especially from beyond the arc, going four-for-six from three-point land. Chelsea Reeves led the scoring for Queens with 12 points. The Greyhounds were down by as much as ten as the first half came to a close, but they rallied to make things interesting at the breaks, as the Knights went into halftime with a 28-26 lead.
 
The second half continued to be a back-and-forth affair, pushing for overtime. With six seconds left in the first overtime period, Teagan Curran hit a clutch three-pointer to push the game to double overtime. At this point, Curran was leading all scorers with 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc. Queens shook off the game-tying shot and came out with more energy in the second overtime, up by four with two minutes left. Callahan hit two free throws with 45 seconds remaining, forcing Queens to call a timeout as they held onto a two-point lead. Even though she had been quiet all night, Amanda Mieczkowski hit a jump shot with six seconds remaining to keep this wild game going to a third overtime period. In that third overtime period, Marina Callahan and Molly Stokes knocked down six free throws to help push this massive victory over the edge, as the Greyhounds hung on for an 81-76 win and improved to 10-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Assumption's last game that went into overtime was last year against Southern Connecticut State University, a 65-58 loss.
• The Greyhounds held the Knights to 12.5 percent from the field in triple overtime, as the Knights went 1-8 and 0-7 within the arc.
• Marina Callahan came two points short of her season high, scoring 17 points while shooting 5-of-9 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line, as she led five Greyhounds with double-digit points. 
• Amanda Mieczkowski had a team-high seven assists along with the clutch game-tying basket in double overtime.
• Assumption continued to get key contributions from their bench, outsourcing Queens in bench points 29-15.
• Monica Spain scored 11 points and added 13 rebounds for her third-straight double-double. 
• Molly Stokes continued her positive play scoring 14 points while logging a team and season-high 50 minutes
