Worcester, Mass. (September 23) -- Led by a two-goal effort from junior Paige Radomski (Kingston, Mass./Silver Lake Regional), the Assumption College women's soccer team defeated Pace by a 3-1 final on Tuesday night at the Multi-Sport Stadium. The victory runs the team's winning streak to five straight and keeps the Hounds atop the Northeast-10 standings.
In a scoreless first half, the Hounds outshot the Setters by a 9-1 margin, including a great opportunity by senior Nikki Brady (Rockland, Mass./Rockland) that was saved by Pace goalie Aisha Chauhan as she just got her fingertips on the shot.
The Setters got on the board first on the third goal of the season by senior Jillian Ferro at the 66:20 mark. Freshman Drew Ribadeneyra played the ball in on the corner kick, followed by a Ferro header for the 1-0 lead. The lead was shortlived though as Assumption put together the exact same play for the equalizer just 2:29 later. Senior Liz Manganella (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) served the ball in from the corner, with senior Lindsey Miller (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) scored her third goal of the season with the header.
Radomski had her first scoring chance with 15 minutes left in the second half as she took a direct kick from the left side that was saved by Chauhan. The rebound came right to Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week Amanda Arnold (Dayton, Maine/Thornton Academy) though, who's header hit the cross bar.
Radomski eventually found the back of the net with 12:16 left in the game though as she played the ball ahead, outran a Setter defender and beat the goalie to the ball by two steps. With one touch, she chipped the ball into the open net for the 2-1 lead and the eventual game winner. Assumption had a number of chances to add to the lead in the final 12 minutes as the Hounds outshot the Setters by an 11-3 margin in the second half alone.
In the final seconds of the game, Radomski played a ball in from around the midfield mark and the ball rolled across the goal line just before time expired to account for the 3-1 final margin. The goal was the seventh of the season for Radomski and fifth of the team's current three-game homestand.
Senior goalie Rachel Edgin (Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro) made one save in net in the victory, while Chauhan turned aside six shots in the defeat.
Overall, Assumption outshot the Setters by a 20-4 margin, including a 9-2 edge in shots on goal.
With the win, Assumption improves to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in Northeast-10 play, while Pace drops to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the league.
Assumption is back in action on Wednesday, October 1st as the Hounds travel to nationally-ranked Adelphi for a 4 p.m. start in Garden City, N.Y.
