Worcester, Mass. (November 22) -- Led by 16 points from senior All-American candidate Kelly Meredith (Franklin, Mass./Franklin), the 22nd-ranked Assumption women's basketball team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 69-48 win over visiting Southern Connecticut. The Hounds are ranked for the first time this season in the USA Today/ESPN poll released this afternoon.

Assumption led by double digits at 13-2 just 5:39 into the game behind nine early points from Meredith and led by as many as 28 late in the period as the Owls shot just 22.6 percent from the field in the half.

In the second period, the Owls climbed back to within 15 points while forcing 23 Greyhound turnovers in the game before the Hawks pulled away for the 21-point victory. In addition to Meredith's effort, the Hounds also used a 14-point night from Sabrina Siciliano (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Warde) and 10 points from Gabrielle Gibson (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague) to remain unbeaten.

Mariah Hankton was the top scorer for Southern Conn. with nine points.

Assumption is now 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the league, while Southern Conn. falls to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the Northeast-10. The Hounds are back in action on Sunday afternoon, traveling to Le Moyne for a 1:30 p.m. start.
