WORCESTER, Mass.– The Assumption University field hockey team picked up their first win of the year as the Greyhounds recorded a 2-0 win against Millersville University Friday afternoon at Brian Kelly '83 Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption came out aggressively against Millersville, creating the first scoring opportunity when
Marta Brzoska put a shot on goal in the fifth minute. The Greyhounds broke through at 7:13, as
Taylor Tory finished a feed from
Daisy Stone for her first goal of the season, giving Assumption an early 1-0 advantage.
The Greyhounds doubled their lead later in the opening quarter. Following an Assumption penalty corner,
Caroline Mastergeorge had an attempt stopped before
Nova Rijks converted a penalty stroke at 12:41 for her first goal of the season. The strike put Assumption up 2-0 in the second quarter.
Millersville turned up the pressure in the second quarter, but
Carolyn Durand stood tall in the Assumption cage. The Marauders generated 11 shots in the period, including a flurry in the closing minutes, but Durand recorded seven second-quarter saves to preserve the two-goal advantage heading into halftime.
The Greyhounds' defense continued to withstand the Millersville attack after the break.
Riley Tepper recorded a defensive save just 48 seconds into the third quarter, while Durand made another stop later in the frame to keep the Marauders off the board.
Millersville made one final push in the fourth, putting five shots on goal during a span of less than a minute, but Durand turned away each attempt. Assumption then generated four penalty corners over the final six minutes to help close out the contest. Durand finished with 13 saves and her first shutout of the season, as the Greyhounds secured the 2-0 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Carolyn Durand recorded a career-high 13 saves for her first collegiate shutout.
- Millersville outshot Assumption 21-13, while also having an 11-7 advantage in penalty corners.
- Durand's 13 saves are the most by an Assumption netminder in a shutout since Sarah Bodzinski had 11 against Merrimack on November 6, 2015.
- Assumption now leads the all-time series 2-0.
