PETERSBURG, Va. – The Assumption University men's lacrosse team made it four-straight wins, as the Greyhounds ran away with a 21-5 win over Virginia State University, Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption started strong as
Boomer Staunton opened the scoring at 14:51. The goal kick-started an 11-0 run, with 10 coming all in the first quarter, with
Finnegan McKeon,
Brian Shortt,
Ben McHugh,
Max Lowenberg,
Patrik McGrath, and
Braden Mutschler finding the back of the cage. After Virginia State got on the board at the 8:05 marker of the second quarter, the Greyhounds responded with a 4-0 run to increase their lead to 14-1 before Andre Bigham beat the buzzer, making it 14-2 at the intermission.
Coming out of the break,
Patrick Johnston and
Cole Rodgers extended the Hounds' lead to 16-2. Bigham struck twice more for the hosts, but a
Ben McHugh score extended the Assumption advantage to 17-4. The Greyhounds finished the game strong, scoring tallies from
Thomas Smith, Johnston, Rodgers, and
Jacob Wilson, before Virginia State saw Hayden Morrison score before the final whistle.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Shane Corcoran, Nate Burns, and James Lopes combined to make four saves in the win.
- Assumption outshot Virginia State 66-18, and won 24-of-28 faceoffs, paced by a perfect 10-for-10 by Connor Stack
- The Greyhounds used balanced scoring, with 13 players recording a point, led by Max Lowenberg's six.
