WORCESTER, Mass.—The Assumption University women's basketball team would fall in the Northeast 10 Conference First Round, as the Greyhounds dropped a 60-54 decision to Southern New Hampshire University on Sunday afternoon inside Andrew Laska Gymnasium.
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Assumption had a strong start, as they went up 9-5 before the first media timeout, with
Maeve Moriarty leading the way with five points. Southern New Hampshire took their first lead of the game following back-to-back three pointers, to go up Ava Winterburn and Meghan Gordon. The two teams traded buckets, but it was SNHU that led 16-15 after the first period. The Greyhounds opened up the second period with a 9-2 run, fueled by five points from
Teagan Curran, giving the Blue and White a 24-18 advantage. A few minutes later, the Greyhounds went on a 7-0 run in a minute to go up 35-25. SNHU closed out the first half on a 5-2 run, sending the two teams to the locker rooms with Assumption leading 37-30.
The third quarter was all Southern New Hampshire, as they outscored Assumption 17-9, with eight of their points coming from the charity stripe. The Penmen closed out the final 3:33 of the third on an 8-2 run, as they took the lead before the end of the frame (47-46). Curran opened up the fourth quarter with a pair of free throws, regaining the lead again for the Hounds, but SNHU used a 6-0 run over 3:43 of action to go back in front. The two teams would trade baskets over the next few minutes, as Assumption stayed within striking distance, but the Penmen knocked down all four of their free throws in the final 30 seconds of regulation to come away with a 60-54 upset win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Teagan Curran led Assumption with 16 points, while adding two rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
- The Greyhounds had a season-high 15 steals, as Laura Johnson-Shed led the way with six.
- Thai Davis stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, nine rebounds, six assists, and four steals.
- SNHU had the slight edge in the rebounding battle, while the Penmen outscored the hosts 23-11 in points off turnovers.
- The all-time series is now tied at 19-19.
