STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. —
Teagan Curran and
Emily Collins led the way, as the Assumption University women's basketball team ran their winning streak to six games, as they topped the College of Staten Island 60-55, in non-conference action Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The two teams traded baskets to begin the game, but it was
Teagan Kamm who led the charge for Assumption, as she scored the first five points for the Greyhounds. The College of Staten Island took their first lead of the game at 11-9, as Kyra Rose scored a layup at the three-minute mark, but back-to-back baskets by Emilly Collins regained the lead for the Hounds.
Laura Johnson-Shedd hit a free throw, and Collins had a jumper in the final minute of the opening frame to give the Blue and White an 18-15 lead after 10 minutes.
Maeve Moriarty scored five quick points to begin the second quarter, before
Teagan Curran scored on a driving layup, giving Assumption a 25-18 advantage. The scoring would slow down, as the two teams combined to shoot 10-of-32 in the quarter. Curran connected from downtown with 3:13 showing on the clock, expanding the visitors' lead to eight points (30-22), but the hosts would close out the half on a 5-0 run to draw within three (30-27) at the intermission.
Coming out of the break, Staten Island would battle back and regain the lead at the 5:09 marker, as Shonyae Edmonds converted an and-one, to go up 36-34. After the two teams traded buckets for the next few minutes, but after Curran gave Assumption a three-point advantage (43-40), the Dolphins closed out the third quarter on an 8-0 run to head into the fourth quarter 48-43.
The Greyhounds started the fourth quarter strong, as
Teagan Curran scored five straight points to evaporate the deficit, forcing a timeout by CSI with 7:31 to go in the frame. After tying the game at 48-48, the Hounds went on a 9-1 run over the next 3:40, with Curran and Johnson-Shedd leading the way with all nine points, going up 57-49. The Dolphins would close the gap, but the Assumption defense held on, as they went on to win 60-55.
BY THE NUMBERS:
- Teagan Curran led all scorers with 20 points, while Thai Davis filled the stat sheet with four points, 12 rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
- Emily Collins recorded her first collegiate double-double, as she recorded 14 points and 12 rebounds.
- Assumption held the College of Staten Island to 37.7 percent from the field and 30.8 percent from long range. This is the eighth time this season that the Greyhounds' defense has held their opponent to under 40.0 percent from the floor, and the sixth time under 31.0 percent from beyond the arc.
- This was the first-ever meeting between the two teams; Assumption now leads 1-0.
