Women's Soccer bests SNHU at home, 3-1

WORCESTER, Mass.– Elizabeth Schoeneberger strikes twice, as the Assumption University women's soccer team knocked off Southern New Hampshire University 3-1, in Northeast 10 Conference action, Saturday afternoon at Normand R. Marois '57 Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The match started with some fire from Assumption; Elizabeth Schoeneberger scored the first goal only 9:08 into the first half. The Greyhounds kept up their strong defense, keeping SNHU away from the offensive side of the field. Neither team could generate much offense, as the Hounds would keep a 1-0 lead entering the half. 
 
With the start of the second half, the Penman scored their first goal in the first six minutes of the half. The goal scored by Southern New Hampshire was scored by Imogen Noon. The Hounds fought back with minutes left on the clock, scoring their second goal of the game, breaking the tie by Assumption Elizabeth Schoeneberger, assisted by Ava Normandin at 83:25. Minutes later, Blue and White scored their final goal at 88:05 by Ava Normandin from a free kick.


INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Kaylin Hebert recorded two saves to pick up the win. 
  • Assumption outshot Southern New Hampshire 9-7, while SNHU had 7-of-9 corner kicks. 
  • After two goals and five points today, Schoeneberger now leads the NE10 with three game-winning goals, is tied for the lead in goals (6), and her 14 points rank second. 
  • Schoeneberger's six goals are the most by an Assumption freshman since Kallie Villemaire had eight during the 2015 campaign. 
  • This was the Greyhounds' first win against the Penmen at home since 2016. 
  • SNHU now leads the all-time series 19-12-6.
