No. 24 Women's Lacrosse dropped second-straight top-25 matchup

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The No. 24 Assumption University women's lacrosse team dropped their second-straight game against a nationally ranked team, as the Greyhounds fell to No. 4 West Chester University 17-11 on Saturday afternoon.

Records: Greyhounds (1-2, 1-0 NE10), Golden Rams (4-0, 0-0 PSAC)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
West Chester started fast, scoring three goals in the opening nine minutes of the contest. Katelynn Johnston halted the Golden Rams' run as she scored with 3:37 remaining in the first. Keri Barnett and Kendall Fortune netted back-to-back tallies before Morgan Bolduc converted on a free-position goal with 22 seconds remaining in the frame. 
 
Kyle Johnston cut the deficit to two goals (5-3) in the early portion of the second quarter, which started the two teams' trading every goal in the second quarter. Annie Ettenhofer scored in the final two minutes to send the game into halftime, with the hosts maintaining a two-goal advantage (8-6). 
 
West Chester pulled away in the third quarter, as the Golden Rams outshot the Greyhounds 10-6, scoring three goals to go up 11-6. After Barnett opened the fourth with a goal for the hosts, Katelynn Johnston and Annika Pyy combined for three straight goals for the Greyhounds to return within three (12-9). The two teams would trade short runs, but the hosts would hold on for a 17-11 final score. 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Skylar Troyan recorded 11 saves in the crease for the Greyhounds. 
  • West Chester outshot Assumption 41-24 while also winning 17-of-31 draw controls. 
  • The Johnston sisters combined for six goals and two assists for eight points. 
  • West Chester now leads the all-time series 2-0.
