SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The No. 23 Assumption University women's lacrosse team opened the year with a 16-2 Northeast-10 Conference win over American International College on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption took control from the opening draw, as
Kyle Johnston opened the scoring 41 seconds into the game and scored off the feed from her sister,
Katelynn Johnston. The Greyhounds continued to show off a balanced scoring attack as
Molly Weiand,
Morgan Bolduc,
Annika Pyy, and
Katelynn Johnston all found the back of the cage in the first quarter to go up 7-0. American International got on the board 53 seconds into the second as Gabrielle Walz beat the Assumption netminder. Still, Weiand and Bartlett closed out the first half on a 3-0 run to send the Hounds into the intermission up 10-1.
The Greyhounds continued to increase their advantage in the third quarter, as Weiand scored her fourth goal of the game, putting the Blue and White up ten goals (11-1). The Hounds slowed their scoring pace, as they only scored six goals in the second half, and they would walk away with a 16-2 opening-day final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Skylar Troyan recorded four saves in the crease for the Greyhounds.
- Assumption outshot American International 34-11 while also winning 11-of-18 draw controls.
- Eight different Greyhounds recorded a point in the contest, with Mallory Bartlett, Molly Weiand, and Kyle Johnston having four points.
- Assumption leads the all-time series 22-7.
