PREVIEW: Football set to take on IUP in NCAA First Round

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University Football team is dancing for the first time since 2022, as the Greyhounds head to Pennsylvania to take on Indiana University of Pennsylvania in the NCAA Division II First Round on Saturday at 1:00 pm.

THE SEASON TO THIS POINT
Record: 8-2 (6-1 NE10), 4-0 at home, 4-2 on the road
  • Assumption cleaned up on the Northeast 10 Conference All-Conference honors, as they had four of the seven major awards and 15 total honors. 
  • Kastantin is the first Assumption player to win MVP since Khaleed Exum-Strong in 2021, and just the third overall (Deonte Harris – 2017). He completed 138 of 223 passes this season (61.9%), while leading the conference in passing yards (1,974), passing touchdowns (19), and passing yards per game (219.3). Kastantin also had 100 carries for 530 yards (5.3 yards per rush) with five more touchdowns on the ground. His passing efficiency of 159.9 ranks 18th in all of Division II.
  • Andy McKenzie was named the NE10 Coach of the Year, as he led Assumption to an 8-2 record (6-1 NE10) and its first trip to the NCAA Division II Championship since 2022. He wins Coach of the Year for the second time in the past four seasons (2022).
  • Jack Driscoll is the fourth Assumption student-athlete to be named the NE10 Offensive Lineman of the Year, as he helped the Greyhounds become one of the best rushing teams in the NE10, averaging 168.8 yards per game and scoring 20 touchdowns this season. 
  • Tindell Frick was a force for Assumption, as he is the third Greyhound to win NE10 Defensive Lineman of the Year (Derrick Mann – 2013, Ray Sarkodieh – 2017). He led the NE10 and ranked 10th in all of Division II in sacks (9.5), to go along with 62 tackles and 12.5 tackles for a loss.

Record: (7-3 (5-1 PSAC) – 5-1 at home, 2-2 on the road
  • IUP earned the No. 4 seed after going 7-2 in the regular season before falling 28-23 to Kutztown University in the PSAC Championship Game.
  • IUP placed 12 players on the All-PSAC West Football Teams, headlined by Kalen Frazier, who was named Defensive Athlete of the Year. 
·       Graduate quarterback Matthew Rueve earned a spot on the second team, while defensive lineman Randy Okungu and defensive back Noah Johnston were named to the second-team defense.
