WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The No. 4 nationally ranked Assumption University field hockey team opened their season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over No. 6 West Chester University Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption struck in the second quarter when
Elle Murray found the back of the cage in the 21st minute.
Mia Salah centered a pass with the West Chester goalie down, and Murray chipped the ball into the open right side to give the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead, which they would not relinquish.
The Greyhounds' defense stood firm for the remainder of the contest, fending off a series of attacks from the Golden Rams, including a penalty corner in the final minute of play.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Paige Gillette recorded nine saves for Hounds, for the shutout.
- West Chester outshot Assumption 14-7 and held a 9-0 advantage in penalty corners.
- This marks the first time Assumption has beaten West Chester, with the Golden Rams leading the all-time series, 4-1.
