HOW IT HAPPENED
The first period was a back-and-forth affair, as both sides fired double-digit shots. Carissa Mudrak was solid between the pipes, as she logged 18 saves in the opening 20 minutes. Stonehill outshot Assumption 18-12, while the Greyhounds did not score on their lone power play of the frame.
In the second period, Stonehill took control, as they outshot Assumption 15-7. The Skyhawks would get on the board at the 8:55 marker, as Bailey Feeney's wrist shot from the slot beat Mudrak to the high blocker side.
Stonehill would open the third period with a goal from Lily Geist to go up 2-0 over the visiting Greyhounds, but Assumption would not go quietly. Sheridan Terrazzano put Assumption on the board as she redirected the cross-crease pass from Emma Gurnell inside the far point to cut the deficit to 2-1. Three minutes later, Teagan Vaughn tied the game at 2-2. Jenna Chaplain won the faceoff back to Vaughn at the point, where she beat the Skyhawk netminder to the low glove side. The game would remain tied until the 15:46 mark, as Alexis Petford capitalized on a power play and regained the lead for the hosts. Despite a late push, the Greyhounds would drop the first game of the best-of-three series against Stonehill.
