No. 15/14 Women's Basketball races past Pace for win number 20, 62-48

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The No. 15/14 nationally ranked Assumption University women's basketball team extended their winning streak to 12 games after defeating Pace University 62-48 in Northeast-10 Conference action Wednesday afternoon at the Goldstein Fitness Center

HOW IT HAPPENED
Emma Dahl got things going with a three on the Greyhound's first offensive possession. However, the offense would slow up for the next couple of minutes. Molly Stokes would get going with a transition layup, as the Hounds led 5-0 through three minutes. At 5:41, the Hounds would go up 7-0 with a Marina Callahan layup, forcing the Setters into a timeout. With 4:34 remaining in the first, Pace would finally get on the board. The Setters battled to stay in it, grabbing offensive rebounds, but could not cash in. After one, Assumption was in complete control, leading 17-6. Callahan opened up the second for the Hounds, knocking down a triple and finding a steal, which led to another Dahl triple, increasing the lead to 17 at 23-6. Despite the incredibly lopsided first quarter, the second was much more competitive, with the Hounds only outscoring the Setters by two. At the break, Assumption led 36-23.
 
In the second half, the Greyhounds and Setters went back and forth, with Pace getting the lead down to nine on a 9-2 run to open the half. The Hounds would regather themselves and respond with a 6-2 run to close the quarter, with no scoring happening within the last three minutes of the period. Heading into the final ten, the Hounds led 47-34. Assumption carried that run into the previous frame, opening with a basket plus the foul from Dahl and a three-pointer from Stokes, leading to a Pace timeout. The Setters struggled a bit in the fourth quarter, while Assumption continued to extend the lead, pushing the advantage back up to 17 with 4:49 to go and leading to another timeout from the home side. With time not on their side, the Setters could not find an avenue back into the contest. With Marina Callahan's double-double, Assumption University defeated Pace University 62-48.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Marina Callahan led all scorers with 19 points while adding ten rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season.
  • Pace outrebounded Assumption 39-31, while the Greyhounds had 14 assists to just two for the Setters.
  • The Hounds' shot 45.3 percent from the field and 53.3 percent from deep, while the hosts were held 34.4 percent from the floor and 15.4 percent from long range.
  • Assumption now leads the all-time series 18-14.
