WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University women's ice hockey team surrendered a goal with 22 seconds remaining in regulation and would fall to Sacred Heart University in New England Women's Hockey Alliance action Friday evening at the Worcester Ice Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
In the first period, the two teams were evenly matched, but the Greyhounds outshot the Pioneers 17-12, but only six shots went on target for the hosts and eight for the guests. Sacred Heart ratcheted up the pressure in the middle frame as they outshot Assumption 29-8, but
Carissa Mudrak stonewalled the opposition.
In the third period, both teams had scoring opportunities, with the Greyhounds' best chance coming with 2:27 remaining in regulation when
Heather Ajakie was awarded a penalty shot. Sacred Heart's netminder thwarted the attempt, keeping the game scoreless. With 22 seconds left in regulation, SHU eventually broke through, as a failed clearing attempt found the stick of Peyton Bennetts, whose shot was tipped in the crease by Kate Helgeson, giving the Pios the 1-0 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Carissa Mudrak logged 34 saves in the crease for the Hounds.
- Sacred Heart outshot Assumption 35-23 while also winning 33-of-53 faceoffs.
- Neither team scored on the power play, as they both went 0-for-2.
- Assumption still leads the all-time series 3-2.
