HOW IT HAPPENED
Saint Rose showed how strong their defense can be early, as they held Assumption scoreless for two and a half minutes before Molly Stokes broke it with a three-point jumper. The Hounds got an 8-2 lead halfway through the first, leading to a Golden Knights timeout. A flurry of points at the end of the quarter, including nine from Stokes, gave the Hounds a 15-7 lead after one.
Saint Rose responded in the second quarter and outscored Assumption 10-9, forcing more turnovers and late shots on each possession. However, the Greyhounds were kept alive by Stokes, who scored 16 points in the first half. Aniya McDonald-Perry led for the visitors with six at the break, as Assumption led 24-17.
Assumption's second half was strong, especially the third quarter, where they pushed on a run to take their largest lead at 39-27 right before the quarter ended. The Golden Knights hung in it for as long as they could, but Stokes dropped 28 and set a new career high, leading to a 54-50 win for the Hounds.
