BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Assumption University volleyball team fell in two tight matches on Sunday afternoon. After dropping a 3-1 decision against Lock Haven University, the Greyhounds' comeback came up short in five sets at Bloomsburg University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Match One – Lock Haven University 3, Assumption University 1
In the first set, the Greyhounds would jump out to a fast start, as they ran out to a 7-1 advantage. Throughout the set, the Bald Eagles slowly chipped away at the deficit as they were able to string together some points and would tie the game at 14-14. The two teams would continue to stay neck-and-neck until the final point, as
Alexis Distasio finished off the set win for Assumption with her fourth kill of the set, 25-23.
In the second set, Lock Haven was the team that started fast, as they grabbed an early 9-3 advantage. For the second straight set, the team that was down early tied the set at 14-14, but the Greyhounds were unable to take the lead away from the Bald Eagles, as they would eventually fall 25-23.
The back-and-forth affair continued into the third set, as Assumption snagged an early 4-1 lead. Lock Haven responded and would eventually take an 8-7 advantage before the two teams jockeyed for the lead. With the score tied 18-18, LHU grabbed three straight points to go up 21-18, before the two teams traded the remainder of the points, giving the Bald Eagles the 25-22 set three win.
The fourth set was all Lock Haven, as they ran out to a 10-0 lead before winning the clinching set 25-10.
Match Two – Bloomsburg University 3, Assumption University 2
In the first set, the two teams traded the first few points before Bloomsburg went on an 8-1 run to go up 16-9. The Greyhounds responded with a 9-4 run to get within one (19-18), but the Huskies finished the opening set on a 6-1 run to clinch it 25-19.
Following Bloomsburg going up in the match 2-0 after a tight second set (25-22), Assumption battled back and took the third 25-20. In the fourth set, the Greyhounds battled back from down 18-13 to force the match to a fifth set, following a 13-7 run, which included four kills from
Carly Goodhue.
In the fifth set, the two teams continued to trade points, but Assumption would take a three-point lead at 9-6 and 13-10, but the Huskies continued to respond and tied the set. With the Greyhounds leading 14-13, Bloomsburg would rattle off three straight points to win the match with a 16-14 fifth set win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Carly Goodhue led the way for the Greyhounds with 29 kills, while Alexis Distasio added 28.
- Melissa Krawczyk paced Assumption with 34 assists on the day, while Sophia Noel added 26, and Tatiana Calderin's 25.
- Distasio led the defensive efforts for the Blue and White with 69 digs, while Brandi Montoya added 60.
- As a team, the Greyhounds recorded 25 aces.
