HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption came out hot from beyond the arc, with
Kasey Draper and
Daouda Dembele knocking down 3's to go up 6-3 to open. The Eagles made it known they were here to play with a super aggressive start in full-court press, resulting in some good baskets for them, including Robert Sanders landing a three to tie it at 8-8. The Eagles got going offensively, with Taquan Williams driving inside and putting the visitors up five. The Hounds tied the game up again, and it was back-and-forth for a decent stretch, with
Cooper Creek tying it up at 29-29 with a dunk in transition. When it was all square at 33-33, the Eagles went on an 8-0 run to take a short lead into the break, with the Hounds down 41-35 at the break.
The Hounds, per usual, came out with lots of energy to open up the second half, cutting it back down to a three-point lead with Dembele converting on the turnaround hook shot. The Eagles continued their full-court press, but the Hounds struggled to knock down open 3's, keeping the game wavering at a seven-point advantage for the Eagles.
Alex Carlisle got involved with a layup, but Deng Deang responded with a big dunk just 17 seconds later. Halfway through the second half, Assumption was down by eight. The Eagles pushed into the late stages of the half, with a Bol Akot layup dropping and putting the Greyhounds up 64-53, leading to a timeout from the visitors.
Kani Glover kept Assumption in it with a driving layup at 3:46 to cut the lead down to seven and then responded with a three. It became a free throw battle, with Akot being sent to the line down three with 26 seconds. Akot could not convert, leading to a Creek chance to tie the game. The three was missed, and the Eagles scored in transition to seal it, leaving Worcester with a 75-70 victory over the Hounds.
