WORCESTER, Mass. – The No. 11/25 Assumption University women's basketball team bounced back with authority, as the Greyhounds recorded a 70-41 win over the University of New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference action Wednesday evening in Laska Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption opened up the game strong on the defensive end, as they held New Haven to 3-of-15 shooting in the opening frame but stayed within striking distance with six offensive rebounds. The Greyhounds ran out to a fast 13-2 advantage, but the two teams traded the final few baskets to close out the first quarter, with the hosts leading 18-7.
New Haven tried to cut into the deficit, as they forced seven Greyhounds turnovers on five steals, but the Assumption defense still had a significant presence in the contest, holding the Chargers to 5-for-14 from the field and just 10 points in the quarter. The hosts would carry a 17-point lead (34-17) into the intermission, with
Marina Callahan leading the way with 13 points.
The Chargers started to see shots fall from long range in the third quarter, as they were 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, but Assumption continued to trade baskets and would slowly expand on their advantage. The Greyhounds would push their lead to 21 points for the fourth quarter.
The final frame saw the Assumption lead continue to balloon as the Greyhounds played a nearly flawless quarter with zero turnovers and 16 of their 19 points on the fast break. The hosts would cruise to a 70-41 Northeast-10 Conference win over the Chargers.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Molly Stokes led all scorers with 19 points, while Marina Callahan chipped in 17.
- Kaijhe Hall recorded her first career double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
- Assumption shot 53.2 percent from the field while holding New Haven to just 30.0 percent.
- The Chargers had a slight advantage on the glass, 34-33.
- The Greyhounds were off to the races, as they outscored New Haven 16-2 on the fast break.
- Assumption leads the all-time series 30-10, including the last five meetings.
