HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption came out of the gates on fire, with Molly Stokes knocking down an open three. The Greyhound defense was relentless in the first quarter, only allowing three points in ten minutes. Stokes led the way for the Hounds, as she dropped 12 points and did not miss a single shot from the field. Avah Ingalls gave good minutes off the bench as well, adding six. The Hounds were up 21-3 after one, with excellent interior defense to force tough shots from the Owls.

Southern Connecticut opened the second period better than the first, knocking down a three from Jillian Martin and a layup from Renza Milner in the hope of kickstarting their offense. However, Assumption put their foot on the gas even harder, with Stokes and Curran knocking down back-to-back triples. The Owls totaled 12 first-half turnovers as their half-court offense struggled, while Assumption took a 43-15 lead into the break.

It was the same as the first half in the second, with the Greyhounds running out to a six-point run to go up 34 and lead to an Owls timeout. Southern Connecticut was feeling from behind the arc for a bit, knocking down a couple of threes and edging into the deficit, as Assumption called a quick 30-second timeout. The Owls continued to show life, while the Hounds responded with big buckets as Callahan and Grace Leary converted on back-to-back three-point plays. After three, Assumption led 61-29.

The Owls opened the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run as they tried to cut into the large Assumption lead. Kara Bremser came off the bench and helped a stagnant Assumption offense as she dropped two threes from the left-hand side of the arc. The Owls pressured full court, caused a flurry of Hounds turnovers, and cut the deficit to 18 as Kerry Phayre put the starters back in to close the game. Assumption held off a strong fourth quarter from the Owls, picking up a 77-59 win vs Southern Connecticut State.
