NEW HAVEN, Conn. –  The Assumption University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 Northeast-10 Conference decision at Southern Connecticut State University Friday evening at Pelz Gymnasium.

THE BASICS

Score: Southern Connecticut State University 3, Assumption University 0

Records: Greyhounds (6-6, 1-2 NE10), Owls (11-8, 1-1 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the first set, the two teams were closely contested for the majority of the frame, but with Assumption leading 13-11, Southern Connecticut rattled off nine-straight points to go up 20-13. Despite a late push by the Greyhounds, the Owls went on to take the first set 25-21.

SCSU was the stronger team in the early portion of the second set, but Assumption would take their first lead of the set following a kill from Tatiana Calderin, making it 17-16 Greyhounds. The two teams would continue to trade points, as neither side would take a two-point lead until Assumption took the set with an ace from Calderin (28-26).

The Owls would race out to a fast start in the third set, as they grabbed a 13-4 advantage. Assumption took a chunk out of the deficit, as they battled back to get within two (15-13), but the Hounds would only muster three more points in the set and would fall 25-15.

The fourth set was more of the same between the two sides, as the two teams traded runs. With  Southern leading 22-20, Assumption took a late lead of 23-22, but a kill and two Greyhound errors would credit the Owls with a 25-23 match-clinching fourth set.
