Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Top-seeded Field Hockey cruises past Franklin Pierce in NE10 Quarterfinals, 6-1

WORCESTER, Mass – The No. 1 seeded Assumption University field hockey team opened up the Northeast-10 Championships with a 6-1 victory over No. 8 seeded Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday evening.

THE BASICS:

Score: No. 1 Assumption University 6, No. 8 Franklin Pierce University 1

Records: Greyhounds (14-5, 13-1 NE10), Ravens (6-11, 5-9 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Assumption started on the front foot, generating chances and penalty corners early. Lily Daly bounced on an open ball in front of Zoe Noorlag, pushing it past her and putting the Greyhounds up 1-0. Not too long later, Mia Salah would get in on the action, scoring five minutes later to make it 2-0. That would remain the score for the rest of the first quarter.

In the second, it looked like the Hounds would run away with it, with midfielder Chloe Kaeller grabbing a goal to make it 3-0. Against the run of play, Silver Clukey added to her goal count, firing a shot past Paige Gillette to get the Ravens on the board and keep them in the contest. At the half, Assumption would hold a 3-1 lead.

The Greyhounds controlled the second half, with Daly getting her second goal of the game just three minutes after the restart. Daly finalized her hat trick with four minutes remaining in the contest, off of an assist from Salah, as the offense was in an excellent flow for most of the night. Elle Murray fired one past Noorlag in the dying minutes to make the scoreline 6-1, the same score from the last time these two teams played. The Hounds would win 6-1 at the final whistle and advance to the NE10 semifinals.
