BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Assumption University women's ice hockey team came up short in New England Women's Hockey Alliance action, falling to Stonehill College 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Stonehill controlled the action in the first period, as they outshot Assumption 20-13 in the opening 20 minutes, but neither side would get on the scoreboard. The Skyhawks got on the board in the early portion of the second period, as Maddison Achtyl scored off the feed from Lily Geist and Brianna Walkom. The Greyhounds answered four minutes later, as Ava McGaffigan slid the puck to Kayla McGaffigan as she was being dragged down, and Kayla fired the puck, beating the Stonehill netminder to the near post.
The game would remain tied until the 5:30 marker of the third period, as Paige Whaley potted a go-ahead goal before Gracie Sacca scored an empty net tally with 18.7 showing on the clock.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Jadyn Weiser logged 21 saves in the crease for the Greyhounds.
- Assumption outshot Stonehill 25-24, while the Skyhawks won 33-of-45 of the faceoffs.
- Neither side was able to capitalize on the powerplay.
- Stonehill now leads the all-time series 2-0.
