WORCESTER, Mass – The Assumption University women's volleyball team battled against Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference volleyball action on Saturday afternoon but ultimately fell 3-1 on Senior Day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Saint Michael's got an early 10-5 lead, ripping off five straight points and capitalizing on attacking errors from the Hounds. It turned into a back-and-forth affair for several sequences, with a block from Carly Goodhue getting the Hounds within four at 14-10. Saint Michael's ripped off another long run when they were leading 18-15 to take a commanding eight-point lead at 23-15, off of three straight kills by Ella Patterson. Despite a quick spurt of points at the end, Saint Michael's took the first set 25-19.
The Purple Knights came out with similar energy in the second set and were leading 6-3, but the Greyhounds responded with a run of their own, ripping off six straight points to go up 9-6. Goodhue continued her strong day with two more kills to put Assumption up 16-12. However, the tides would start to turn for Saint Michael's. Down 16-13, they scored five straight to take a lead. Assumption got back in front at 22-20, but the Knights responded with five straight to take the second set, ending it off of an attacking error by Anna Dean.
The Hounds swung momentum back their way, going on a 6-1 run through Dean and two service aces from Alexis Distastio. Assumption did an excellent job of fighting off runs from the visitors throughout this set and held a 15-12 lead after three straight attacking errors from Saint Michael's. Even when the Knights fought back to tie at 18-18, Assumption got another three-point lead. At 24-23, Dean ended the set with a signature kill, giving the Hounds the set win and an avenue back into the match.
Marissa Krawczyk and Goodhue's efforts got the Hounds a 6-4 lead to open the fourth set as they tried to keep the match alive. The fourth set remained very tight, as Saint Michael's tried to close the match while Assumption sought to extend. Down 18-16, the Purple Knights went on a six-point run to take a 21-18 lead. While Assumption fought back and took a 23-22 lead, Saint Michael's Caitlin O'Connor's kill ended the match and gave Saint Michael's a 3-1 set win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Goodhue led the offensive effort with 18 kills, while Dean and Distasio had ten.
- Brandi Montoya had 20 digs to lead all Greyhounds.
- Tatiana Calderin paced the Assumption offense with 17 assists, while Marissa Krawczyk (14) and Sophia Noel (10) had double-digit helpers.
- Saint Michael's now leads the all-time series 26-15.
