HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half was a back-and-forth affair, with both sides exchanging small leads and spurts of good offense. The scoring was pretty split throughout the Greyhound rotation, with three players going into the break with five points, including
Kani Glover,
Cooper Creek, and
Njavan Stewart.
Rapolas Buivydas used his minutes wisely, leading Assumption with six points, including a layup with one second left on the clock, to give the Greyhounds a one-point lead at halftime.
For the final 20 minutes, this one proved to be a very close basketball game, looking very much like the first. More Greyhounds got in on the action, with
Isiah Gaiter getting up to seven points and
DeWarren Watkins piling on nine off the bench. The story for Assumption was Buivydas, who went a perfect 7-7 from the field for 16 points, the most for the Greyhounds.
Njavan Stewart hit two critical free throws with 20 seconds left, giving the Greyhounds enough cushion to hand on for a much-needed three-point victory.
