HOW IT HAPPENED
-Pace University opened the scoring in the 25th minute with some luck. After a pass was sent in outside the box, the Hounds tried to clear it and mishit the ball and it ended up in the back of the net to give the Setters a 1-0 lead.
-After a turnover in the Assumption half, Pace forward Amber Probasco used her speed on the right side of the field to get behind the Assumption defense and lift a shot from a tough angle over freshman goalie Julia Walsh (San Diego, Calif.) to give Pace a 2-0 lead.
-The Hounds were able to respond just before halftime in the 38th minute when junior defenseman Addison Davis (Bristol, Conn./Saint Paul Catholic High School) rushed down the left side of the field past the Pace defense and fired a pass into the middle of the box where freshman forward Ashley Wenzel(Kensington,Conn.) was able to tap it in to cut the deficit to 2-1 going into halftime.
-Just four minutes into the second half the Hounds responded quickly and were able to tie the game when senior Diana Bruggeman (Natick, Mass./Natick) put pressure on the Pace defense on the left side winning the ball near the corner flag and sliding a pass to sophomore Kate Carleson (Plainfield, Conn./Plainfield) who fired a shot to beat the goalie with a low shot to the left corner even the score at 2-2.
-The rest of the game was a defensive, physical battle with Assumption creating most of the chances pushing to get ahead but both goalies stood strong in net.
