-The Lead: The Assumption University women's tennis team fell to the Panthers of Adelphi University in their opening match of the 2021 season. In an effort to limit exposure, the teams played to decision with the Panthers taking home the 4-0 final victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Senior Julia Chappell and first year Caitlin Sze battled at #1 doubles, but ultimately fell 6-3 to Adelphi's Barbie Quagliardi and Nicole Kielan.
-Sophomore Cara McCormack and Aimee Figgins had the same outcome at #2 doubles as Amanda Franstedt and Nicole Stay earned the 6-3 final for the Panthers.
-Chappell took on Quagliardi at #1 singles for one of the three unfinished match-ups of the evening. Quagliardi defeated Chappell in the first set, 6-2 and Chappell led 3-1 in the second set before being called off.
-Stay defeated Figgins at #4 singles for Adelphi's third score of the night and Kielan earned the final tally at #5 singles with 6-0 finishes in the first two sets over Assumption freshman, Jessica Crosby.
