HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Greyhounds came out strong, scoring just over one minute into play. Senior Jenna Graf (Ballston Lake, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) settled the ball at the top of the circle and fired a shot in for the 1-0 lead.
-Assumption continued to put on the offensive pressure and scored their second goal in the seventh minute of play. Senior Sydney Bouchard (Cape Neddick, Maine / York) carried the ball to the right side of the circle and found her classmate Isabel Primack (Ipswich, Mass. / Ipswich) who tipped it over to Deirdre Burchill (Braintree, Mass. / Braintree) who found the back of the net for the 2-0 lead.
-Just over one minute later the Hounds extended their lead to 3-0. Junior Christina Leonard (Marlborough, Mass. / Marlborough) found senior Shannon Quinlan (Buffalo, N.Y. / Williamsville North) on the right post who lifted it over diving Franklin Pierce goalkeeper, Addy Araneo.
-With under four minutes to go in the first period the Ravens were able to find their way into Assumption's defensive end and drew a penalty corner. Sophomore Julia Rooijakkers dished the ball to her classmate Silver Clukey on the left post and she found room behind Assumption goalkeeper, Kylie Gargiulo (Madison, Conn. / Daniel Hand), to bring the Ravens within two heading into the second period, 3-1.
-The Greyhounds outshot the Ravens 8-2 over the first 15 minutes.
-Assumption dominated on offense in the second period, but neither team could find the back of the net as they headed into halftime at 3-1. Franklin Pierce saw their closest bid at a second period goal with just seconds on the clock. A high shot was deflected up and over the back of the net by Gargiulo to preserve the 3-1 lead.
-The Hounds came into the second half just like they started the first. Graf fired the ball in from just outside the circle and first year Mia Salah (Gloucester, Mass. / Gloucester) got a stick on it to deflect it to the back of the net for the 4-1 advantage just over one minute in.
-Assumption capitalized on a penalty corner play in the 38th minute of play. Quinlan was able to sweep the ball to Summer Walsh (South Yarmouth, Mass. / Dennis-Yarmouth Regional) on the left post and she knocked it in for the 5-1 advantage heading into the final 15 minutes.
-The Greyhounds outshot the Ravens 9-3 through the final 30 minutes to clinch the 5-1 final victory.
