-The Lead: The Assumption College women's tennis team swept the Hawks of Saint Anselm College in their season opener at home on Saturday afternoon. The win boosts the Hounds to a 1-0 record in the Northeast-10 Conference to kick-off the 2019 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Assumption took 6-1 victories in all three doubles match-ups. Junior Julia Chappell (Machester, N.H. / Machester Central) and senior Maria Monje (Worcester, Mass. / Holy Name) paired up for the 6-1 finish over Kaitlin Hughes and Emily Jacy. Senior Camille Latoni (San Juan, P.R. / Academia Maria Reina) and junior Valeria Sanchez (Carolina, P.R. / Colegio La Piedad) took down Saint Anselms' Maikah Bulpitt and Anastasia Kapothanasis while the duo of junior Veronic Op (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy) and first year Isabella Coppolino (Cranston, R.I. / Mount Saint Charles Academy) rounded out the doubles sweep.

-Chappell took down Hughes at No. 1 singles, 6-2 and 6-1. Monje and Latoni defeated their singles opponents by set scores of 6-4 and 6-1 at No. 2 and No. 3 singles respectively. Sanchez dominated at No. 4 singles over Maikah Bulpitt, 6-1 and 6-0 and sophomore Ana Escudero (Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) shut out Dominiquw Bolduc at No. 5 singles. Josie Hulbert retired at No. 6 singles, giving the Hounds the final 7-0 victory.

UP NEXT

-The Hounds travel to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regionals next weekend in Flushing, N.Y. The will compete on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, September 13th through the 15th.
