Box Score THE BASICS:

- The Lead: Assumption won the first and fourth sets to send the match to a fifth set before Southern Connecticut took control and won the fifth set 15-8 and the match 3-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Assumption took an early 5-2 lead after scoring three consecutive points to force Southern Connecticut to take a timeout. The Owls answered with three straight and then four straight points to take an 11-8 lead. The Hounds rallied back with two three-point stretch to take a 22-20 lead. The Hounds kept their momentum and won the set 26-24.
- Southern Connecticut came out firing in the second set taking an 8-2 lead to force the Hounds into a timeout. With four unanswered points, the Owls extended their lead to nine (13-4) and later with four more points took a 22-9 lead. The Hounds were unable to recover and fell in the second set 25-11 to tie the match at one apiece.
- The Owls did it again in the third set, this time jumping out to an eight-point lead (10-2) before Assumption took a timeout. The Hounds were able to get within five (17-12) after three-point and four-point rallies before Southern Connecticut ended their momentum. The Owls took the second set 25-16 with three-straight at the end to get a 2-1 advantage in the match.
- The fourth set was a back-and-forth battel with neither team stringing together more than two points until Southern Connecticut put three together to take a 14-9 lead. The Hounds answered with four consecutive points themselves to get within one (14-13). Assumption kept rolling and took a 17-16 lead and forced the Owls to take a timeout. The Owls came out of the timeout to score four-straight and then force Assumption to take a timeout. The Owls extended their lead to four (23-19) before Assumption took over and scored the next six points to win the set 25-23 and take the match to a fifth set.
- The fifth set started similar to the fourth with both teams just trading points. The Owls gained some momentum when they scored four-straight to take a five-point lead (12-7) and force Assumption to take a timeout. The Hounds were unable to recover from the deficit and fell 15-8 in the fifth and 3-2 in the match.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Alana Hruska (Marlborough, Conn./RHAM) led the pack with 14 kills and added two digs and two solo blocks while Mary Campbell (Plainville, Mass./Bishop Feehan) added eight kills.
- Danielle Zarcone (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown High School East) recorded her first career double-double with 32 assists and 16 digs while both Ariana Orcera (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Marista) and Alexandra Krawczyk (Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport) recorded 16 digs apiece also.
- Laine Peterson (Hawthorne, N.Y./Westlake) led the Hounds with 20 digs while adding one kill and two assists.
