-The Lead: The Assumption College men's tennis team earned its second straight victory on Saturday night with a 7-2 win over Franklin Pierce in Paxton, Mass. With the victory, the Hounds improve to 2-1 in the NE-10 and sophomore Ryan Foster (Bloomfield, Conn. / Classical Magnet) stretches his undefeated streak to six.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-The Hounds went into singles competition trailing 2-1 after doubles. The only doubles squad to claim a victory was Foster and junior Chris Waung (Bolton, Conn. / East Catholic). The pair topped Andrew Schadt and Marcus Lawrence by a score of 8-3.
-Assumption rallied to take all six singles matches for the 7-2 victory. Waung earned a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles while Foster also claimed the No. 2 match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
-Junior Marco Leung (Macao / The International School of Macao), freshman Reb Mariano (New London, Conn. / Saint Andrew's School) and junior Tom Knight (Wilbraham, Mass. / Minnechaug Regional) also swept their matches. Knight shut out Joshua Singer at the No. 6 singles match, 6-0, 6-0 while Leung and Mariano both pulled off tiebreakers in set one (7-5) before taking set two 6-2 and 6-3 at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.
-At No. 5 singles, Casey Hodor (North Kingstown, R.I. / Bishop Hendricken) fell in the first set by a score of 6-4 before coming back to take set two 6-4. The pair played a tiebreaker set, which Hodor claimed 10-5.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:
-Foster remains undefeated in dual-match play with a 6-0 record at No. 2 singles.
-Leung also remains undefeated with a 3-0 mark at No. 3 singles.
-Waung is now 5-1 in dual-match play at No. 1 singles.
-Leung and Mariano's loss marks their first of the season at No. 2 doubles.
-In singles play, the Hounds are now 16-4 on the season.
