Box Score

Worcester, Mass. (April 25) -- On a sunny Senior Day, the Assumption College women's lacrosse team earned its first postseason berth in 11 years and fourth overall as the Hounds defeated Saint Anselm by a 13-9 final in Northeast-10 play at the Multi-Sport Stadium. The win marks the 10th of the 2015 season, giving the Hounds the single-season program record for victories.

Prior to the start of the game, the Hounds honored five seniors who were playing in their final home game at Assumption as part of the team's Senior Day festivities.

The Hawks got on the board early as Kaitlyn Stazinski tallied a free-position goal just over five minutes into the half for the 1-0 edge. Assumption answered with back-to-back goals from seniors Amy McNeil (Orange, Conn./Amity) and Camille Auger (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk) before eventually staking to a 5-2 advantage with 12:28 on the clock. Back-to-back Hawk goals from Erin Marshall and Erica Mattila in a 22-second span cut the lead down to just 5-4 moments later, but the Hounds closed on a 3-1 scoring run for the 8-5 halftime lead. Six different players scored for Assumption in the first half, including two each from junior Julianna Mollloy (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) and sophomore Tori Russo (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor).

The Hounds started the second half quickly as freshman Tianna Habosian (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) tallied her first career goal as she skipped in a shot with 25:46 left for the 9-5 lead. Marshall and Caitlin Villareal briefly cut the lead to just 9-7 before four unanswered goals for the Hounds put the game out of reach at 13-7 with just 6:17 remaining. Villareal and Stazinski tallied late goals for Saint Anselm, accounting for the 13-9 final as the Hounds clinched the No. 7 seed in the upcoming playoffs.

Russo led the Hounds with three goals as five different Assumption players had multiple goals. For the Hawks, both Marshall and Stazinski finished with hat tricks and Marshall added an assist.

Sophomore Jaclyn Chirco (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) posted eight saves to pick up her 10th win of the season, while Allee Ramzi made three saves while playing just over 41 minutes in the loss.

Saint Anselm held a 24-22 advantage in total shots, while Assumption posted an 18-14 edge in ground balls and successfully converted 19-of-20 clear attempts. The Hounds converted 4-of-7 free position chances as well, along with forcing 18 Saint Anselm turnovers.

Assumption is back in action in the Northeast-10 Quarterfinals on Wednesday, April 29th as the Hounds travel to No. 3 nationally-ranked Le Moyne for a 2 p.m. start in Syracuse, N.Y.
