-The Lead: Sophomore Amanda Arnold (Saco, Maine / Thornton Academy) scored twice on Saturday afternoon to lead the Assumption College women's soccer team to a 2-1 lead over Pace in the weekend's NE-10 contest. The game marks the fourth this season that Arnold has tallied multiple goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-The Hounds got out to a quick lead in the ninth minute when Arnold took a shot from the top of the box that found its way past Pace's keeper Aisha Chauhan into the right side of the net.
-Assumption maintained the lead throughout the remainder of the first half, but early in the second, the Setters' Emma Sinanan tied it up off of a rebound in front of the goal (50:28).
-The squads remained tied for 21 minutes, until Arnold scored the gamewinner off of a corner kick (71:19). Freshman Ania Spina (Wallingford, Conn. / Mark T. Sheehan) took the kick, sent it into the box where junior Jaclyn Tomasello (Halifax, Mass. / Silver Lake Regional) and Arnold were waiting to deflect the ball into the net for the 2-1 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
-Arnold and senior Paige Radomski (Kingston, Mass. / Silver Lake Regional) led the Assumption offense with four shots apiece, both registering two on goal.
-Spina tallied two shots while two other Hounds lined up for a shot on goal including Tomasello and junior Emily Hill (Dedham, Mass. / Dedham).
-Junior Emily Kuzma (East Haven, Conn. / East Haven) tallied three saves in her 90 minutes between the posts compared to Chauhan's five for Pace.
-Overall, Pace outshot the Hounds 13-12 however, Assumption registered seven shots on goal compared to four for the Setters.
-Assumption held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:
-Saturday's game marks the fourth this season that Arnold has notched multiple goals.
-Arnold is now tied for the league's goal leader with 10 and ranks third in points with 25, just two behind Radomski who leads the NE-10 in the category.
UP NEXT:
-The competition marks the final regular-season match for the Hounds. Following the completion of the remainder of the NE-10 teams' schedules, NE-10 Playoff dates and times will be announced. Currently Assumption sits in sixth place in the league as the top eight make the tournament.
