-The lead: The Assumption College women's tennis team fell to Adelphi University, 7-2 in Saturday's Northeast-10 match in Hempstead, N.Y., snapping the Hounds' six-win streak. Going into today's match both teams remained undefeated in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-Sophomore Cassie Burbine (Londonderry, N.H. / Londonderry) and junior Hannah Riley (Ellington, Conn. / Ellington) played at No. 1 doubles against Stefani Lineva and Karen Serina, falling by a close score of 8-6 in the close match up.
-Burbine faced another close match at No. 1 singles against Lineva. Taking the match into a tiebreaker, Burbine picked up one of Assumption's two points with a score of 7-5, 3-6, 10-5.
-Senior Aubrey Lovejoy (Holden, Mass. / Wachusett Regional) claimed the second point for Assumption in her No. 6 singles competition against Elena Nastasi. The match also went to a tiebreaker, after Lovejoy took the first set 6-4 and fell in set two 6-3. The match ended with a 10-4 tiebreaker in Lovejoy's favor.
BEHIND THE NUMBERS:
-Lovejoy's win at No. 6 singles makes her still undefeated in the NE-10 in singles play with a record of 3-0.
-Burbine has won her last three matches at No. 1 singles making her 4-2 in conference play.
-Saturday's loss marks the first for Assumption since their first match of the season against Wellesley on Sept. 3.
