THE BASICS:

-The lead: The Assumption College women's tennis team fell to Southern New Hampshire 7-2 on the road on Monday. Despite the defeat, the Hounds have officially clinched a spot in the 2015 Northeast-10 Conference playoffs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-Freshman Paige Benoit Holden, Mass. / St. Peter Marian Central Catholic and senior Marie Black Palmyra, N.Y. / Palmyra-Macedon paired up at No. 2 doubles against SNHU's Kaitlyn Poje and Yolanda Green on Monday. The Hounds were able to pull off a close victory with a final score of 9-8 after a 7-5 tie-breaker.
-Sophomore Cassie Burbine Londonderry, N.H. / Londonderry came out strong against Nour Kaddour at No. 1 singles however, she ultimately fell in the battle, 6-3, 6-1.
-Benoit continued her successful run in her No. 3 singles match, defeating Green in a shutout. Benoit picked up the only win for the Hounds in singles play with her perfect 6-0, 6-0 score.
BEHIND THE NUMBERS:
-The Greyhounds officially clinched a spot in the Northeast-10 Playoffs following their match against at Southern New Hampshire. This marks the second-straight season the Hounds have made it to the NE-10 Tournament. Assumption fell to Stonehill in the NE-10 Quarterfinals last season.
-Benoit was the only Hound to go 2-0 in the match, taking No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles, improving her and Black's doubles record to 6-3 in conference play.
UP NEXT:
-The Hounds are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 14, as Assumption hosts Saint Anselm for the last regular match of the 2015 season. The Hounds will celebrate senior day on Wednesday prior to the 2:30 p.m. start of the match.
