Field Hockey Takes Fourth Straight, 2-0

Box Score

Worcester, Mass. (September 30) -- On a wet Tuesday night, the Assumption College field hockey team won its fourth straight game with a 2-0 shutout victory over visiting Franklin Pierce in non-conference action at the Multi-Sport Stadium. The game was the fourth in a row for the Hounds in the all-time series with Franklin Pierce and just the second home game of the season for the team.

With just 30 seconds left in the first half, the Hounds had a penalty corner attempt that was taken by junior Taylor Chase (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional). Chase passed the ball out to sophomore Andrea Koslowski (Warren, Mass./Quaboag Regional), who played the ball in towards the right side of the net.  Sophomore Meghan Sullivan (Worcester, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) collected the ball and found Chase cutting back towards the net as she tipped it in for the 1-0 halftime lead. The goal was the second of the year for Chase as the Hounds outshot the Ravens by an 11-2 margin in the opening 35 minutes of play.

Assumption added to that lead just 49 seconds into the second half as Kozlowski converted a penalty stroke into the upper left hand corner for the 2-0 advantage. That goal was the first of the season for Kozlowski, who finished the game with three shots overall.

For the game, the Hounds held a 20-5 edge in overall shots and a commanding 10-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Senior Lauren Neilan (Mendon, Mass./Nipmuc Regional), this week's NE-10 Goalie of the Week, had four saves in the win, while Meaghan Williams turned aside six shots for the Ravens in the loss.

With the win, Assumption improves to 4-2 overall, while Franklin Pierce drops to 2-4 on the season.

Assumption opens Northeast-10 Conference action on Friday night, October 3rd as the Hounds travel to Bentley for a 7 p.m. start in Waltham, Mass.
