Holden, Mass. (September 24) -- The Assumption College women's tennis team (3-5, 3-3 NE-10) broke its three-win streak Wednesday, falling to Southern New Hampshire (2-1, 2-1 NE-10) by a score of 6-3 at Wachusett Regional High School. Sophomore Kristen Carbone (Taunton, Mass. / Coyle-Cassidy) helped earn two of the Hounds' points on the day.
Assumption took one doubles match to start the day's competition. Carbone along with junior Aubrey Lovejoy (Holden, Mass. / Wachusett Regional) claimed an 8-3 win in the No. 3 doubles match while sophomore Hannah Riley (Ellington, Conn. / Ellington) and freshman Cassie Burbine (Londonderry, N.H. / Londonderry) ended their 3-0 streak at No. 1 doubles with an 8-2 defeat.
Freshman duo Aida Vila (Girona, Spain / La Salle Girona) and Maggie Holland (Newburyport, Mass. / St. Thomas Aquinas) put forth a strong effort in the No. 2 doubles match, but ultimately fell 8-5.
In singles play, it was Carbone and Riley who earned wins for Assumption. Riley posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over the Penmen's Jamie Hann in the No. 3 singles match while Carbone went 6-0, 6-2 over SNHU's Allison Valentine at No. 6 singles.
In the No. 4 singles match, Holland was the only Hound to push three sets. After falling in the first set 6-1, the freshman rallied to a 6-2 win in set two before dropping the final by a score of 7-6 (7-2).
Assumption returns to action this Saturday, Sept. 27 as they travel to New Haven for a 1 p.m. NE-10 match-up.
