Holden, Mass. (September 17) -- The Assumption College women's tennis team earned its first win of the season against tough Northeast-10 Conference foe Bentley by a score of 7-2 on Wednesday evening at Wachusett Regional High School. With the win, Assumption moves to 1-4 on the season, 1-2 NE-10, while Bentley drops to 1-2 overall, 1-2 NE-10. 

The Hounds kicked off Wednesday's match taking all three doubles matches. Freshman Cassie Burbine (Londonderry, N.H. / Londonderry) and sophomore Hannah Riley (Ellington, Conn. / Ellington) won the No. 1 doubles match by a score of 8-3, the largest doubles score margin on the day. 

In the No. 2 doubles match, freshmen Aida Vila (Girona, Spain / La Salle Girona) and Maggie Holland (Newburyport, Mass. / St. Thomas Aquinas) teamed up to earn an 8-6 win while junior Aubrey Lovejoy (Holden, Mass. / Wachusett Regional) and sophomore Kristen Carbone (Taunton, Mass. / Coyle-Cassidy) posted an 8-4 victory in the No. 3 doubles match.

The Hounds claimed the No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 singles matches on the day, led by Vila who swept Bentley's Ludmila Yamus in the No. 1 singles by scores of 6-4 and 6-2.

Burbine claimed the No. 2 singles match by scores of 6-3 and 7-6 while Riley pushed the No. 3 singles match to three sets. After falling 6-1 in the first set, Riley rallied for a comeback in sets two and three, posting a score of 6-2 in both to take the win.

Lovejoy nearly shut out Bentley's Susan Stowe in the No. 6 singles match, claiming the first set 6-0 and the second 6-1.

The Hounds look to continue the momentum this Saturday, Sept. 20. at Le Moyne. The match is scheduled for 11 a.m.
