Box Score Worcester, Mass. (September 10) -- The Assumption College volleyball team dropped a five-set match to Stonehill College in its Northeast-10 Conference season opener at the Laska Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.
The Greyhounds dropped the first two sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-18 before breaking through in the third set with a 25-22 victory. Assumption followed that up by evening the match with a second 25-22 match in the fourth set, sending the game to a deciding fifth set which Stonehill took by a 15-7 margin.
Junior Ann Donahue (Braintree, Mass. / Braintree) finished the game with a team-high 10 kills, while senior Alie Carlson (Amston, Conn. / RHAM) had a team-best five blocks.
Sophomore Tara Reilly (Naples, Fla. / Northport) ranked second on the team with nine kills while senior Ryan Merle (Skaneateles, N.Y. / Skaneateles) had seven kills and four blocks in the loss.
The Greyhounds fall to 1-2 on the season with the loss and 0-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play, while the Skyhawks improve to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the league.
Assumption is back in action on September 13th as the Hounds will travel to West Chester for a two day tournament. The Greyhounds will open the tournament with a match against Chestnut Hill at 5 p.m.
